Terminology and Rebates

There’s a lot of jargon in every industry; for those unfamiliar with the terms, it can get very confusing. If you’re contemplating investing in your home, this can seem like a huge barrier, but it doesn’t have to be. We’ve made up a list of “industry speak” terms in an eort to educate you as a client, making our business more transparent and less daunting.

Passive House:

The term passive house refers to a rigorous, voluntary standard for energy eciency in a building, reducing its ecological footprint. It results in ultra-low energy buildings that require little energy for space heating or cooling.

Firestop:

In the case of a fire, a firestop prevents the fire from spreading. This is achieved by using various components to seal openings and joints in fire-resistance rated wall and/or floor assemblies.

Vapor Barrier:

This is a thin of impermeable material, typically polyethylene sheeting, used in building construction to prevent moisture from getting into the building and causing damage or decay

Building Insulation Materials:

This refers to any materials used to insulate a building, such as foam, fiberglass, and natural fibres. Each material has it’s own attributes, but the main considerations are thermal conductivity, durability, eas of installation, environmental impact, and safety.
